These are included below. Emma McGovern (oboe) trained at the Royal College of Music and the Tchaikovksy Conservatoire in Moscow. Her recital venues include the Tchaikovsky Hall, Moscow, and she has won prizes in Slovenia and Italy as well as the RCM. She has also played in orchestras in the UK, France and Russia. From Belfast, Sarah Smith (clarinet) graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with distinction,and has won several awards including an RPO Sir John Barbirolli Award. She has worked with the LSO Wind Academy, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and the Britten Sinfonia. Lois Au (bassoon) studied with Martin Gatt, Julie Price and Andrea di Flammineis as well as with Frantisek Hermann and Jiri Seidl in Prague. She performs with many groups, including the Aurora Orchestra and the London Symphony Orchestra. An introduction to the Programme Notes by the Gelächter Trio: This recording is inspired by our passion to promote contemporary British compositions for the wind trio, and to expand the repertoire to show how truly virtuosic and fun this ensemble can be. These characteristics shine through the music of Cecilia McDowall and Andrew Wilson. We also asked Timothy Salter to write us a piece with an extra challenge for the performers, and he came up with the idea of adding hand held percussion instruments for us to play. The final track of the album, Marc Yeats' Dark Matter, may sound like a departure from the theme, but his universe soon explodes into a quirky kaleidoscope of passion, energy and joy. Each composer on this album brings a different quality to this combination of instruments which we hope shows you just how versatile and exciting current British composers are!
