  • Could you help a new oboe/bassoon/piano piece into this world? Richard Ramey (rcramey@uark.edu), Professor of Bassoon at the University of Arkansas, USA, writes:

I would like to let all of you know of a new commissioning project for 2012 with composer, bassoonist, and pianist Bill Douglas. I am spearheading the project to have Bill write a trio for oboe, bassoon and piano. The work will have 4 movements, and be approximately 15 minutes in duration. The flavor of the work will be in his usual style of long, lyrical, singing lines influenced by Bach, lyrical jazz, African, Brazilian, Celtic, Renaissance music, etc.

The fee to join this project is $75 (approx £48 or €57) per commissioner. All participants would be listed on the title page as contributors with their affiliation; they also will receive a set of parts and score, as well as a recording of the piece on sampled instruments. All participants would have a one-year exclusivity agreement on performances before the piece is made available for the general public. Once we get a number of people signed up, Bill would anticipate completing the quartet by May, 2012. When the work is completed, I will notify all of the commissioners and at that point, they can send the commission fee directly to Bill.

For more information on Bill and his music, please visit his website. You can hear the IDRS premiere of his first "Trio for Oboe, Bassoon and Piano" on YouTube.
