CC2323 - Tempest
Pipers 3: Mark Baigent and Matthew Draper, oboes Jessica Mogridge, cor anglais (English Horn)
Pipers 3 bring their considerable virtuosity to two unusual and exotic pieces. Alasdair Nicolson's The Tempest Suite began as incidental music to Shakespeare's play; David Knotts' Tsirana takes as its starting point the sound of the Armenian dukduk.
This music makes you soon forget you are listening to an oboe trio.

CC2301 - Oboe Masterworks
Or, more accurately, lesser-known works by better-known composers. J S Bach's 'little G minor' Sonata is a gem, and J C Bach's delightful D major Sonata is in the 'galant' style. Telemann's Solo Fantasia No. 8 has the heft of Bach (J S), with brilliant contrapuntal writing; and Beethoven's Adagio for a Musical Clock is quite charming (how often can you say that of Beethoven?).
